Description
Professionally fabricated Mechboard 64 v1.07 printed circuit board (PCB), with pre-soldered SMD PartsMechBoard64 is an ultrahigh quality mechanical keyboard alternative to the aging Commodore 64 keyboard.
It can use a wide variety of mechanical key switch types, like those from CherryMX or Gateron, to achieve the exact keyboard feel you've been looking for, fr
om smooth and linear, to audibly clicky, to highly responsive and tactile.
MechBoard64 is hand assembled using a custom aluminum frame and printed circuit board, which were both designed by
MtnBuffalo (Breadbox64) to
fit perfectly into either the original 'breadbin style' case or the newer C64c 'wedge style' case.
MechBoard64 is compatible with
all
of the original C64 motherboards that have been produced from the long board series (e.g., assy 250407, 250425, 250466, etc.), through to the later generation "short boards" (e.g. 250469).
Mechboard64 also works well with many of the newer "reproductions" and "re-implementations", such as the Ultimate 64, the SixtyClone, the "DIY Chris" 250407, the "Bwack" 250407, etc.

What's included here:
A professionally fabricated custom printed circuit board (PCB), based on the original
v1.07
design from MtnBuffalo
All of the surface mount electronics required for the Shift-Lock are pre-soldered and
fully tested for
complete
keyboard functionality
Additional parts are required to complete this build,
which are
not
included here*
:
Mechanical key switches of your choice (e.g., CherryMX, Gateron or other compatibles)
A keyboard frame (these are typically laser-cut aluminum, which is then bent to specifications)
Through-hole electronics, such as pin headers for the shift-lock settings and data cable connections, as well as jumper caps
Key insert adapters, which enable mechanical key switches to fit standard C64 key caps
A set of Commodore 64 key caps from an original C64 keyboard (or from the CBMSTUFF indiegogo campaign)
"Costar" key stabilizer clips and rods for the Enter and Space keys
A 20 pin data cable, with female connectors
Optionally, you can add 56R SMD resistors, if you plan to add LED lighting under your mechanical key switches (this is not required for base keyboard functionality)
